Spacing that respects elbows

A barber needs room to step behind a client without colliding with the next station. We set centre-to-centre distances from the chair model you intend to buy, then test trolley widths against those gaps. Narrow Victorian shops often take three stations where a brochure promised four.

Columns left from warehouse conversions become anchors for storage rather than obstacles we pretend are not there.

Washpoints and wet floors

If a washpoint already exists, we reverse-plan chair positions from the plumbing stack. Moving drainage across a timber joist floor in a Leeds terrace is rarely worth the disruption; redesigning the dry stations is cheaper and cleaner.

Where a new washpoint is essential, we mark falls, waterproof zones, and towel storage so the wet corner does not leak visually into the waiting area.

Mirror runs and power drops

Continuous mirrors make a shallow room feel wider but demand careful joint lines and lighting. We dimension shelf depths so bottles do not silhouette against clients’ faces, and we place switched sockets where clippers actually rest.

Upstairs units off Briggate sometimes have limited ceiling void. Surface trunking is drawn deliberately rather than snaking as an afterthought.

Circulation for staff and guests

Staff need a clear rear path to the store and washpoint without crossing the waiting bench. Guests need a short walk from coat hook to chair without weaving between open trolley drawers. We sketch both routes on the same plan and adjust until neither fights the other.
